About Me
Writing an “About Me” section feels daunting. Like thinking of a “fun fact” about yourself on the first day of a job orientation. I’m not sure how to summarize myself in a textbox. But my best effort is this:
I’m a mom. I’m a nurse turned healthcare administrator (because someone has to try to fix this mess). I have a potty mouth and I like drinking red wine in the winter, gin in the summer, and whiskey all year round. I’m an introvert working in extroverted fields. I love Emperor’s New Groove and Quentin Tarantino films. And nothing makes me happier than a pile of nachos.
I try to live my life by always asking, “Will this matter when I’m 80?”
Photography is always a yes.
My Philosophy
My grandparents were some of the best people to walk the earth. Vivacious, witty, and big-hearted. Their focus was always on people - their massive community of friends and family. They collected many close relationships over the years through long nights of loud laughter and yummy food.
When they died, my family sat for hours going through massive plastic tubs of their photos. Every celebration, vacation, new home, car, or bike - all documented. Grainy photos of twirling around kitchens and eyes teary from joy. Their whole story being told even after they were gone.
And what I learned was that seeing them be who they are, in their favorite places and with their favorite people, was far more special than anything curated.
For this reason, my love of photography is in capturing your honest story. That includes the fingerprints and dog nose smudges on the glass of the sliding door. And the wrinkled bedspread. And even the body you currently have, every stretch mark included.
You are loved, right now, as you are, miraculously alive. And this is how everyone will want to remember you.
I will not pose you unless you ask me for some guidance.
I welcome your dog, and your kids (and any tantrums), and your favorite music.
I will not photoshop you. If you’d prefer the pimple or the coffee stain be gone, that I can do. But your body is perfect the way it is because it’s keeping you alive (and you’re great).
So…
This is about bookmarking your life so that you, your loved ones, and the generations ahead can come to this chapter in time.
